India, Russia Reach Agreements on GLONASS Alliance

India and Russia have reached two collaboration agreements on the utilization and development of the Russian GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System). India is to launch two GLONASS-M satellites on its GSLV carrier rockets and join hands with Russia in the development of the GLONASS-K satellite. Utilization of GLONASS in fields of weather applications, commercial transactions, personal navigation, and military operations will be made available for India. Currently there are 13 GLONASS satellites in orbit, which will be augmented to 24 by the end of 2009.
